Ecology - the study of the interactions of living organisms with each other and the environment
Population - a group of organisms of the same species living in the same area
Community - all the populations of species that live and interact in the same habitat
Ecosystem - a community of organisms and their abiotic environment

Producer – an organism that makes its own energy using the sun
Consumer – any organism that eats other organisms for its energy
Decomposer - An organism that feeds off of dead or decaying organisms
Herbivore – an organism that eats only plants
Carnivore - an organism that eats only animals
Omnivore – an organism that eats both plants and animals
Energy Pyramid - a triangular diagram that shows an ecosystem’s loss of energy
Food Chain - a diagram that shows how energy in food flows from one organism to another
Food Web – a diagram that shows the feeding relationships between organisms in an ecosystem
